Health Concerns in Quarantine

Quarantine has been hard on everyone. As the coronavirus swept across the world, people used social distancing as the best tool to protect themselves and their loved ones. The tactic has been shown to be effective in slowing and stopping the spread of the disease, but it’s not without its side effects. Aside from the obvious social and economic ramifications, there have been countless personal consequences that we cannot ignore.

Physical

With everything from gyms to dentists forced to close, many people are forgoing otherwise basic physical self-care in the name of staying out of the hospital. There’s a balance to be struck, though. Take the dentist, for example. Many dentists and dental hygienists were forced to close, sometimes indefinitely, because the nature of their work was so inherently risky. Dozens of patients could be infected and not know it. Even worse if the dentist themself was a carrier. But is it riskier to forgo your usual checks now and end up looking for emergency dentistry Windsor Terrace or your area later?

Mental

There’s no denying the mental toll either. Humans are not meant to live isolated from their community. It takes a tremendous toll, especially on at-risk communities like the elderly, who rely on emotional support to maintain their sense of wellbeing. Even otherwise healthy people, those who are willing or able to take the risk and go out for necessary work, are suffering enormous mental strain, knowing that every time they go out, they are risking their lives and the lives of their loved ones.

The personal cost of social distancing may be high but it is better to socially distance now and survive the pandemic than to ignore the dangers and end up getting yourself or your loved ones sick. If you are aware of and prepared for the costs, then you will be better able to handle the necessary dangers.
