Today’s modern conveniences make life so much easier and more enjoyable. From refrigerators and freezers to computers and cellphones, you use these things every day, and power from places such as Washington DC electric company help make this happen. You might find yourself using more appliances and other devices these days, but you can still take steps to conserve energy. Mother Nature and your wallet will thank you.

  1. Turn Off the Lights

This is common sense and something you may have been told as a kid by your own parents. When you’re not in a room, make sure the lights are off. Consider unplugging lamps that are rarely used. You can get timers from your local hardware store to control when lamps operate, so you don’t have to think about it at all.

  1. Buy Efficient Appliances

Has your washer or dryer recently broken down beyond repair? When it comes time to replace major equipment, look for replacements that use energy efficiently. They perform well and can save you a good deal of money in the longrun.

  1. Mind the Temperature

A few degrees up or down on the thermostat depending on your climate and time of year can make a huge difference in how much power you’re using and the amount of your utility bills. Instead of cranking up the heat in the winter, put on a sweater. If it’s a nice day out, open the windows and let in the outside air to regulate your home’s climate. You’ll love feeling the cool breeze, and it will help remove odors from rooms.

Small changes can have a big impact. Incorporate a few new behaviors into your everyday activities, and you might be surprised at how quickly the savings add up. Try it today and find out. We can help ourselves, each other, and the whole world.
