A Guide to Selling Your Home When You Have Pets

Pets have become an integral part of most people’s lives. In fact, today, they are considered part of the family, where most people do many things with their pets, including traveling with them. When you are selling your home, there are many things you will have to take care of, including renovation, marketing the house, and finding a realtor. But what about pet owners? Do they have more responsibilities when it comes to selling a home? Here are helpful tips to guide you as you sell your home if you own a pet.

Clean and Deodorize Your Home

Anyone selling a house should do these things, but they are particularly important to pet owners as pets can make quite a mess. If possible, Jennifer Alsbrooks suggests hiring professional cleaners to clean the place thoroughly. In addition, pets normally have a smell. But since you are accustomed to it, you may not notice it, but potential buyers will. Get pet-specific deodorizers to help eliminate odor.

Get a Sitter

Once you put your house on the market, consider finding someone to watch over your pet. It is not a good idea for your little friend to be around when potential buyers are coming to view the house. This ensures you do not have to do any last-minute cleanups because your pet made a mess.

Repair Pet Damages

As expected, pets are messy. But considering they make great companions, most people do not mind the mess. However, sometimes they can cause damage by tearing your curtains or furniture or damaging the floor. When you are about to sell, inspect your home thoroughly. For scratch marks on furniture legs and wood floors, try rubbing some coconut or walnut oil to eliminate the claw marks. If they have torn any fabric, replace it.

Even if potential buyers love pets, they would love to see a clean house, free of any pet odor. Take the measures mentioned above to ensure you have an appealing home that can sell easily.
