Best places to visit near Bangalore during winters

It is the winter season and with long holiday weekends approaching, everyone is looking for great outing ideas. If you live in Bangalore and need a break but cannot afford to take off for a few days, there are so many outing places in Bangalore. You can visit the Lal Bagh Botanical Garden or Take a picnic at Cubbon Park.  With so many lakes in Bangalore, you can take a boat ride at Ulsoor Lake or go bird watching at Hesaraghatta Lake. But if you do have the luxury of time and want to take a fun weekend getaway, enjoy a rejuvenating retreat and yet be back by Monday morning at work, we have some promising options for you.

  1. Mysore

Take off to Mysore, the ‘City of Palaces’ which is rich with its historic legacies, royal heritage, and architectural genius, dazzling silk sarees, yoga, and sandalwood. Located only 160 kms away from Bangalore, Mysore is perched at the foot of the famed Chamundi Hills.  Rich in cultural heritage, Mysore is home to the majestic Mysore Palace which is spectacular with intricate architecture, beautiful paintings, stained-glass windows, artisanship, and opulent ambiance that reflects the regal era that has gone by.  The palace is a must visit at-least once in your lifetime and if you are there on a Sunday or during the Dussehra celebrations, you can behold the palace being spectacularly lit up at sunset.

  1. Bheemeshwari

Less than 100 kms away, nestled on the banks of Kaveri River with a spectacular landscape is Bheemeshwari that makes for a great getaway this winter. The exotic wildlife and picturesque view are why there are so many adventure camps and fishing sites that are found there. Warm yourself with some fun activities with your family indulging in sports like river rafting, boating, kayaking, fishing, and trekking. Visit the Bheemeshwari Wildlife Sanctuary to spot Crocodiles, Wild boars, Leopards, Jackals, Deers and regular sightings of birds like Cormorant, Ibis, and Kingfisher.

  1. Nagarhole 

Take a walk on the wild side away from the hustle bustle of the city at getaway to Nagarhole located 220 kms from Bangalore. Part of the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve, this is one of the most visited national parks in Karnataka, owing to the constant increase in its tiger population. Take a safari at the Nagarhole National Park to spot Tigers, Wild dogs, Sloth bears, Leopard, Hyena, Sambhar, Deer, Gaur, Four-horned Antelope, Wild boar, Elephants, Indian bison, Marsh crocodile, and the Rocky Python, etc here. You can also stop by at Kabini River located within Nagarhole, where you can spot herds of elephants along the river banks, some lazing, and some playfully mingling and over 250 species of birds.

  1. Coorg

Known as the Scotland of India, Coorg is the coffee capital of Karnataka and is set amidst lush green coffee estates with cool and misty weather throughout the year. There are many hotels you can take your pick from, but we suggest you stay at a homestay to witness the local culture and cuisine first hand. Coorg has several attractions besides great weather, spice, and the luscious coffee plantations. Enjoy meeting the local folk and walk around coffee estates to make your trip memorable.

  1. Chikmaglur

Not more than 240 kms from Bangalore, Chikmagalur is a hill station, with Baba Budangiri to its North, a mountain range in the Western Ghats, with 3 large caves said to be holy. Don’t miss the Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary on the way here, which is home to elephants, tigers, and leopards. Chikmaglur, due to its proximity to Bangalore and the touristic attractions it has to offer is in demand throughout the year. Stay amidst a coffee estate for a completely surreal experience.

  1. Nandi Hills

One of the most frequented getaway destinations from Bangalore located not more than 60 kms away is Nandi Hills, Bangalore. Set in picture-perfect settings, Nandi Hills sports great weather throughout the year, especially in winter when you can enjoy the misty climate, an amazing sunrise, the beautiful Bull Temple and the mysterious point Tipu’s drop. It’s a great day trip but you can make a weekend of it by staying at one of the resorts near Bangalore, maybe at the foothill of Nandi Hills. Though there are few in the vicinity Discovery Village Resort at the foot of the hill is known for delectable cuisine and a wide range of fun activities.
