What To Do Immediately After Buying a Home

Are you in the process of buying a home? The home buying process is an exciting yet stressful time, and there are many moving parts. While right now you are solely focused on meeting with lenders and providing the correct documentation, you need to make sure that you have a plan in place of things to do immediately after the sale goes through.

Change the Locks

When a house is listed for sale, there is no telling how many people are provided copies of the keys for whatever reason they need to get into the house. Because of that, it is better to err on the side of caution and have the locks changed immediately. You can buy replacement locks at a large home improvement store, or you can have a locksmith Orlando come and do it for you. Additionally, when you change the locks, you want to also change the garage security code. You can search the brand online and read about how to do it.

Deep Clean

Even if the house isn’t covered in trash, you should never assume that the previous homeowners cleaned the home thoroughly. If you can, spend the first few days cleaning the home before you move in. These cleaning days would be a good time to deep clean the carpets because it will be a lot harder once you move your stuff in. When cleaning, don’t forget to check areas such as a dryer vent, which are often forgotten.

Check the Smoke Detectors

Smoke detectors are literal lifesavers, so they should never be ignored. Most detectors only last for about 10 years, so make sure you look at the age of each one and replace any that are too old. Additionally, test each one and ensure that they are working correctly. If you don’t have smoke detectors with built-in carbon monoxide detectors, then you will want to make sure you buy separate carbon monoxide alarms.
